Every day, ready-to-wear companies work hard to bring fantastic products onto the market with fun designs, new ideas, new finishes: some long ribbons on a children's dress, an anti-bacterial finish in your super comfortable new work clothes, fun curtains for children's rooms lined with pearls, ...
A lot of attention here goes to the 'look' or the extra comfort for the user, so the SAFETY/CONFORMITY of the product is sometimes lost sight of. This can lead to serious problems.
IMPORTANT UPDATE:
In June 2023, the EU Parliament enacted the new EU GPSR which replaced the General Product Safety Directive. While there is a transition period until December 2024, companies need to act now.
Anyone who has already received questions or experienced problems with the safety/compliance of a product knows very well how important product safety is. Those who have not received any complaints so far: great!
But let's keep it that way.
According to RAPEX, clothing was found to be the most frequently reported product category for dangerous products in the EU. Therefore, the economic department of the federal government launched a control campaign in 2020 to check the conformity/safety of already children's clothing on the Belgian market. They will provide more details on this topic ( + upcoming market controls ).
